Compounds of general formula (I), where q stands for the numbers 0, 1, 2 or 3, A stands for the group (a), in which m = 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, l = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, R is a straight-chain, branched, saturated or unsaturated C0-C20 alkylene group which may contain imino, phenylenoxy, phenylenimino, amido, hydrazido, ester groups, oxygen, sulphur and/or nitrogen atoms, possibly substituted by hydroxy, mercapto, imino, epoxy, oxo, thioxo and/or amino groups, having either a terminal ring of general formula (II), where A stands for the (b) group, a terminal functional group or a bio- or macromolecule bound to this functional group, B, D, and E, which are the same or different, each stand for the (c) group where R is hydrogen or R , k = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, n = 0 or 1, Z stands for hydrogen or CH2X, where X stands for the residues -COOY or -PO3HY where Y is a hydrogen atom and/or a metallic ion equivalent of one of the ordinal numbers 21-29, 31, 32, 37-39, 42-44 or 57-83, provided that B, E, and D each contain not less than 2 and not more than 5 carbon atoms and that at least two Zs stand for CH2X, as well as their salts with inorganic and/or organic bases or amino acids, are useful diagnostic and therapeutic agents.
