Lip sealing ring

In a lip sealing ring, especially one for sealing off rotating shafts, comprising a housing ring with a vulcanised-on sealing sleeve composed of elastomeric material, the elastomeric sealing lip with the annular helical tension spring resting on its rear surface is provided with special protection by a ring placed over it, preferably composed of polytetrafluoroethylene. The ring has an approximately U-shaped cross-section, one limb of which forms the contact surface, which is optionally provided with a hydrodynamic sealing aid, while the second limb rests with its end, under prestress, on the elastomeric sleeve and protects the annular spring from deposits from the sealing medium. The ring can be used, in particular, to provide sealing against sand-containing aqueous slurries or lubricating oil contaminated with solids and has a long life.
