description In previously known methods, the energy content of the workpieces from the melting device was lost in further treatment. The aim of the invention is to preserve this energy content and to guarantee an end product with optimum quality. The continuously cast profile 1 emerging from the induction furnace is moved in the direction of the rolling train. At the time of entry into the inductor train, the profile has a temperature gradient running from the inside to the outside. According to this temperature gradient, the profile is divided into longitudinal zones 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. For each zone, a given energy quantity is necessary in order to achieve a uniform temperature over the profile for the entry into the rolling train. To introduce the energy into the workpiece 1, inductors 8 are provided, which are arranged in a meandering shape, with branches of different length towards the middle. In order that the edge region also is really heated to the same temperature as the core of the workpiece 1, bent inductor loops 9 are arranged at the edges.
