Zusammenfassung:	An adjustable shock absorber (1) is installed in a vehicle suspension system. A cylinder (2), filled with a damper fluid, is divided into two chambers (6, 7) by a piston (8) which is attached to the inner end of a hollow piston rod (13). The upper end of the hollow piston rod locates a solenoid assembly (20, 21) which is attached to a valve piston (23) at the lower end of the hollow piston rod. Thus by operating the solenoid, the two cylinder chambers (6, 7) can be linked or isolated from each other.
