description In order to achieve low-friction support of the mould belts (20) forming the moulding gap of the apparatus, the belts (20) are hydraulically supported by cooling water. The supporting elements (102) are provided with cooling-water nozzles (114) which lie within supporting areas (106). The cooling water emerging from the nozzle forms a film of water which flows over the annular supporting area (106). The interspaces between adjacent supporting elements (102) serve as a water outlet. In order to compensate for local irregularities in the strand thickness, the supporting elements (102) can be pressed individually against a stop (126) and moved outwards relative to the gap by means of a hydraulic force and/or a spring force (120) when the force exerted by the belt via the cooling-water film exceeds a certain value.
