The timer is driven via the rotor shaft of the distributor. Each time one of the ferrite rods passes the pick off unit it produces a pulse. The moulded plastics body is similar to that of a cylindrical battery torch, with the timing disc in the centre opening. It is coupled to the body by an elastic ring pressed into the cone shaped clearance between the two.
