Openings, which can be closed, are provided in the wall fo driving tube, on either side of piston in its start position and enables predetermined vols. of gas to be introduced into the chambers to produce controllable pressures in the chambers. The device is used for examining the effects of impulses in pipelines, vessels and on the stability of burner systems, turbines, air jets, rocket motors, calibration of instruments with square wave form input and checking acoustic damping systems.
