1313267 4,41-Diamino-biphenyls KABI AB 19 April 1971 [6 March 1970] 23109/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the general formula and salts thereof with acids or bases wherein n represents 0 or 1, A represents an alkylene chain having at least 3 carbon atoms in the chain linking (O) n and X, and X represents a carboxylic acid group, or, when n represents 1, x represents a sulphonic acid group. When n= 1 the compounds may be prepared from odianisidine by demethylation of the methoxy groups and acylation of the amino groups, coupling of the desired side chain and removal of the acyl groups. When n = 0 and X is a carboxylic group the compounds are prepared transferring a compound of the formula into the corresponding halogen (preferably iodine) compound of the formula, reacting this compound with copper (Ullmann reaction) to give a compound of the formula which upon hydrolysis gives the desired product. The compounds of the invention may be used as chromogens in the analytical array of compounds which form hydrogen peroxide by means of a specific oxidase or reductase.
