description 1292990 Impregnated sheets for cleaning PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 30 Dec 1969 [30 Dec 1968] 63311/69 Heading C5D [Also in Division D1] A cleaning composition comprises an absorbent multi-ply paper or non-woven cloth substrate, having a free space of 40-90%, an absorbent capacity of 5À5-12 and impregnated with 2-10 x its weight of a cationic or zwitterionic surfactant (or compatible mixture) having a softening point of 100-170‹ F. The surfactant is a quaternary ammonium or imidazolinium salt or a zwitterionic quaternary ammonium compound, e.g. eicosyltrimethyl-, ditallowdimethyl-, dimethyldi(tall oil)- or tallowdimethyl (3 - tallowalkoxy)propyl - ammonium chloride or 3 - (N - eicosyl - N,N - dimethylammonio) - 2 - hydroxypropane - 1 - sulphonate. Other compounds are listed. The substrate may be a multiply, embossed, extensible paper laminated with P.V.A. adhesive or a non-woven cellulose cloth of which the fibres are oriented at least partly at random or bonded with a selfcrosslinking acrylic resin. The substrate may be impregnated from a melt or solution; in the latter case residual solvent may serve to lower the softening point of an otherwise unsuitable softening agent. The composition may be used, preferably after being wetted, to clean metal, wood, plastics and leather surfaces.
