description A method and a device are disclosed for manufacturing mineral fibres, in particular endless fibres, from rock, vitreous industrial waste, industrial glass waste. The problem is to design a method by which these initial materials from a stable melt can be processed into fibres, in particular endless fibres, of improved fibre quality and processing characteristics. The initial products are melted down in a melter, transferred to a feed duct, fed to a reservoir unit and then to a nozzle unit from which it is drawn off as a thread. The melt is fed to the reservoir unit from a melt discharge region in which the melt has the claimed parameters of temperature, processing range, viscosity, viscosity/surface tension quotient and viscous flow activation energy. The ratio of the height of the melt in the feed duct to the height of the melt in the melter lies in a defined range.
