description 1,222,154. Anti-static copolymers. KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO. Ltd. 14 March, 1968 [15 March, 1967], No. 12542/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Division B2] Anti-static agents consist of random copolymers of formula where B1 is H or CH 3 , R11 is OH, COOH , OOC.CH 3 , phenyl, CONH 2 or OCH 3 , A is a phenylene or naphthylene radical which may be substituted or -CHR- where -R is an alkyl or aryl group which may be substituted, B is SO 3 H, SO 2 H, COOH, PO 3 H 2 or PO 2 H 2 , n is 1 or 2 and the ratio m : m 1 is 1 : 1 to 4 : 1, or with a B group and OH group salt of such a copolymer. In synthesis, Examples 1-8, the above copolymers were made by treating copolymers of maleic anhydride with vinyl acetate, styrene, vinyl methyl ether, or methacrylamide; or of maleamic acid with styrene; or of sodium or potassium maleamate with styrene, vinyl acetate or vinyl methyl ether; with sodium carbonate and 4-phenoxyphenylhydrazine - 3 - sulphonate, p - carboxyphenylhydrazine, p-aminobenzoic acid, p-sulphonylic acid or hydroxymethane phosphoric acid; or with sodium hydroxymethane phosphmate, sodium hydroxypropyl sulphonate or potassium hydroxy-α-propylmethyl phosphinate, to produce copolymers of formula In Examples 1-7 the copolymers are formed into aqueous and/or organic solutions.
