description | 1,195,249. Photo-composition process and materials. KEUFFEL & ESSER CO. Sept. 22, 1967 [Sept. 28, 1966], No.43260/67. Heading G2C. A photo-sensitive non-silver halide print-out composition and a photo-sensitive silver halide developing-out composition arranged in a common layer or in superposed separate layers on the same support or on separate supports are simultaneously exposed to a light image to obtain a visual print-out image and a coincident latent developable image. The visible image may be viewed by a safelight to which both compositions are insensitive and a succession of exposures using different images may be made on the same sensitive material to build up a composite image, e.g. in the photocomposition of engineering drawings. The latent image or images may be subsequently developed in the usual way to give an archival quality visible image, if desired with the removal or de-sensitization of the print-out composition by solvents or heating. If desired, unwanted parts of the latent image may be removed before development or only parts of the latent image may be developed. The photo-sensitive material for the process may be prepared by mixing the two photo-sensitive compositions and coating them as a single layer on a support e.g. paper, or the compositions may be coated as separate layers on the same side of a support e.g. paper or on different sides of a transparent support, or they may be in separate layers on separate supports and comprise a printout sheet material and a silver halide sheet material merely arranged in superposition. The print-out and silver halide compositions have a common spectral sensitivity range, e.g. 3000 to 5000 angstroms, and a common range in the visible spectrum to which they are insensitive, e.g. in the yellow safelight region. The print-out composition may comprise an organic halogen compound / arylamine composition, e.g. a carbon tetrabromide /diphenylamine composition, or a diazo composition containing 41-diazo-21 :51 -diethoxybenzanilide zinc chloride salt, 1:3:7-trimethyl xanthine, thiourea, acrylic acid amide, triethanolamine and 2:3-dihydroxy-naphthalene. In an Example, (10), a mixed print-out and silver halide composition is made by mixing a silver chloride emulsion containing nickel and copper ions, chrome alum and formaldehyde with solutions containing (1) diphenylamine, tribromomethylphenyl sulphone and thioflavine in methanol/ methylene chloride and (2) diphenylamine and carbon tetrabromide in aqueous g |
