The device has a valve actuating element (10a) that slides about a switching path, and a switching element (12a) i.e. switch rod, that is movably coupled with the actuating element, for sliding the actuating element. A mechanical switching delay unit (13a) movably decouples the switching element and the actuating element from each other for a preset time period. The delay unit has a switching energy storage unit (14a) for temporarily storing switching energy of switching movement of the switching element.
