Mechanical measurement probe for road vehicle bodywork may be attached to robot arm and may feel contour of luggage compartment lid held open at given angle by strut

The mechanical measurements are made by a probe on the end of a robot arm, moving over the surface of e.g. a luggage compartment hatch (14). The hatch is hinged to its open position on the vehicle bodywork (16). The measurement system (10) includes a prop (18) attached to the lock (28) at the lower sill of the hatch opening. The upper end of the prop is fastened to the lock eye (36) on the edge of the hatch. The prop holds the hatch at a given angle (20) while the measurements are being taken.
