description Polytetrafluoroethylene dispersed in an aqueous dispersion of a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer, a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer compounded with styrene, polybutyl methacrylate, polyvinyl acetate, natural resin, starchy gelatin, protein or gum is used for coating glass fibres or fabrics. The dispersion may be anionic or cationic and may include dyestuffs of which an extensive list is given in the Specification. U.S.A. Specifications 2,359,858 and 2,381,752 are referred to.ALSO:Glass fibres or fabrics are coated with a composition comprising polytetrafluoroethylene dispersed in an adherent base. The base may be an aqueous dispersion of polymerized butadiene - acrylonitrile, butadiene - acrylonitrile compounded with styrene, butyl methacrylate or vinyl acetate, "Buna-S" (Registered Trade Mark), natural resin, starchy gelatin, protein or gum, and the composition may be formulated into an anionic or a cationic dispersion. The composition may be applied to fibres whilst they are being formed or to yarns or fabrics, and may be set upon the material by heat treatment. The composition may include dyestuffs. The fibres or fabrics may be further coated with an aqueous solution of a Werner complex compound, e.g. stearato chromic chloride, tallow acid chromic chloride or methacrylato chromic chloride, and this subsequent coating may be followed by heat treatment. Heat treatments following the first coating are specified within the range 250 DEG - 400 DEG F. and, following the subsequent coating, within the range 250 DEG - 450 DEG F. References are made to materials made of lead glass and of lead glass in which more than 50 per cent. of the melt is lead oxide. Glass fabrics may be heat treated prior to the process. U.S.A. Specifications 2,359,858 and 2,381,752 are referred to.
