description The coupling for loom harness lifter cords, and especially in a Jacquard loom, has a twist lock/unlock action for one of the two coupling sections (11,13) through a twisting member and the like. At least one of the couplings (11,13) has a section (15) which is not circular, to be gripped for twisting by a fitting unit (17) with an axial movement between them for engagement/disengagement. The fitting unit (17) to give the twist action is at an opening or a passage opening (19,19') in a positioning component (21,21') with a cross section which matches the shape of the coupling grip section (15). The passage opening (19,19') has a cone shape, or a conical entry or at least one part of its length which is conical. The lifting unit (3) and/or the harness cord(s) (7) pass through the opening or passage opening (19). The non-circular coupling section (15) rotates at the coupling (11,13). At least one coupling (11,13) has a projection (31) to restrict the axial movement. One coupling (11,13) has an opening (35), open to one side surface (33) to hold the radially inserted projection (37) at the other coupling (11,13). The opening (35) is also open to the under surface of the coupling, with a narrowed cross section (41) at its lower zone. The holding projection (37) has a neck (43) with a narrower cross section to pass through the smaller portion (41), and a thicker section (45) at its free end. The holder opening (35) and the projection (37) have complementary shapes, preferably in a T-shape. When they are mated together, they are in a locked fit and can be separated by overcoming the grip forces between them. The first coupling (11) has a claw shape at the opening (35) to take the inserted projection structure (47') of the other coupling (13), with claws of an elastic plastics material. The positioning unit (21,21') has a number of openings or passage openings (19,19'), each for a coupling (11,13), and each coupling (11,13) is arranged at a positioning unit (21,21'). The openings (19,19') are axially aligned with each other or are offset, when in the coupling position. At least one coupling (11,13) is in two parts where one part has the holding projection and the other part is the non-circular section. Both coupling parts are held together in a release mounting. At least one coupling (11,13) can have a shaft which is out-of-round, to be inserted into the opening passage, with a shaft length which is longer than the loom shed stroke movement in raising and lowering
