description The invention relates to a sealing ring (5) which is formed by a continuous body, of which the outer surface is formed by an elastic material and which is easily deformable in peripheral direction but practically not so in cross-sectional direction, wherein one or more weakenings (11) are formed in the elastic material. These weakenings, which can take the form of recesses, run at an angle to the peripheral direction and preferably transversely thereof. The weakenings or recesses can be arranged spaced apart in the body in cross-sectional direction, for instance alternatingly in the top and the bottom side. The invention further relates to a pipe coupling provided with a housing having on both sides an opening for receiving a pipe, a sealing ring as described above for arranging round the pipe and means connected to the housing for pressing the sealing ring.
