Zusammenfassung:	A process for the preparation of styrene-divinylbenzene gel cationic exchange resins by sulfonation in sulfuric acid, without the addition of a swelling agent or acrylic co-monomers, with relatively fast hydration rate. The use of temperature and acid concentration to increase the rate of sulfonation while controlling the side reaction of sulfone bridging minimizes reaction time while maximizing bead quality.
