Electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly for fuel cell and manufacturing method thereof

An electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly for a fuel cell comprises a polymer electrolyte membrane and a pair of electrodes sandwiching the electrolyte membrane, and each of the electrodes comprises a catalyst layer in contact with the polymer electrolyte membrane and a gas diffusion layer in contact with the catalyst layer. The polymer electrolyte membrane contains electronically insulating particles, which serve as spacers for separating the gas diffusion layers of the electrodes, in a region sandwiched between the electrodes. A polymer type fuel cell in which the two electrodes are reliably separated by the polymer electrolyte membrane, the internal resistance is low, and the effective reaction area is large, is provided.
