The invention relates to the field of olefin polymerization, and discloses a catalyst composition and application thereof, a cycloolefin ring-opening metathesis polymerization method and a polymer prepared by the method. The catalyst composition of the present invention comprises: a) at least one tungsten halide and/or molybdenum halide; b) at least one alkylzinc compound; and c) at least one aluminum halide compound.
