description The present invention relates to detergent compositions, in particular solid laundry detergent compositions. This field requires providing a laundry detergent composition that retains or maintains at least a certain level of beneficial bacteria. This may allow the beneficial bacteria to modulate or inhibit the growth of non-autotrophic bacteria (e.g., pathogenic bacteria) and/or maintain a suitable microbiome in the subject to benefit from the health improvement that the non-pathogenic bacteria may provide. It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a laundry detergent composition that does not damage beneficial bacteria and symbiotic bacteria in the microbiome of the skin. We have found that solid detergent compositions are mild against beneficial bacteria and symbiosis present on the skin surface when the detergent compositions contain alkyl sulfate surfactants as well as no or low levels of alkylbenzene sulfonate surfactants and no or low levels of bleach systems.
