Zusammenfassung: | A method of manufacturing a hub bearing unit includes providing a bearing ring having at least one raceway surface, preferably a bearing outer ring, preferably formed from steel having a carbon content of between about 0.55 wt% and 0.60 wt%. The bearing ring is carbonitrided in a furnace having a closed atmosphere containing ammonia gas. The bearing ring is then tempered by heating the bearing ring to at least 500 degrees Celsius (500 DEG C). Subsequently, at least one raceway surface of the bearing ring is subjected to induction hardening, preferably by means of a dedicated inductor coil. And finally, the raceway surface of the bearing ring is machined to the expected final size and surface smoothness.
