The invention relates to a virtual object toolkit. In some implementations, a method includes obtaining a virtual object toolkit that includes virtual object templates of a set of particular virtual object types. In some implementations, the virtual object toolkit includes a plurality of component sets. In some implementations, each component group of the plurality of component groups is associated with a particular portion of a virtual object. In some implementations, the method includes receiving a request to assemble a virtual object. In some implementations, the request includes selecting a component from at least some of the plurality of component groups.
