A new method for the synthesis of acetic acid and methyl acetate by the direct reaction of carbon monoxide and methanol with the catalyst and cocatalyst methyl iodide is provided. Compared with the prior art, the method has the advantages that the methanol carbonylation reaction is realized under mild conditions, and an economical and environment-friendly novel methanol carbonylation method is provided.
