The varistor consists of zinc oxide and additives, wherein the ZnO content is 90-100 parts by weight, and the rest is the additives; the additive consists of the following raw materials in parts by weight: 0.5-1.5 parts of Co3O4, 0.2-1.2 parts of Mn2O3, 0.2-1.2 parts of NiO, 0.2-1.2 parts of Cr2O3, 0.7-1.7 parts of Sb2O3, 0.5-2.5 parts of Bi2O3, 4-5 parts of TiO2, 2-3 parts of SiO2, 1-2 parts of Al2O3 and 20-30 parts of Y2O3. A 34S product of the varistor prepared by adopting the composition and the process conditions can bear a single impact of more than 8 KA under a 10/350 waveform, the hardness of the varistor prepared by each embodiment is improved by more than 50%, and the high-temperature resistance is improved by more than 30%, so that the product is more durable and reliable, the service performance is greatly improved, and the use requirements are met.
