The present invention provides a method for controlling traffic, comprising the steps of: setting a corresponding application in an operator application package to be a traffic-free application, wherein traffic generated by the traffic-free application is not added to total traffic; setting a traffic threshold value for each of other applications; monitoring and counting the traffic generated by each of the other applications in real time; judging whether the traffic generated by each of the other applications reaches the traffic threshold value set for the corresponding application; and prompting a user when the traffic generated by at least one application in the other applications reaches the traffic threshold value. The present invention also correspondingly provides a system for controlling traffic and a terminal. The method of the present invention can solve the problem of incapacity of controlling the traffic of the other application.
