Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine. Fuel is supplied from a fuel tank (9) to a high pressure accumulator (13) via a presupply pump (5), a metering unit (14) and a high pressure pump (3). The presupply pump (5) can be switched on to supply fuel. A pressure signal (22) of a pressure in the high pressure accumulator (13) is detected. An error of the metering unit (14) is detected. The metering unit (14) is essentially opened. A duration is detected as a function of the detected pressure signal (22). A point in time is detected as a function of the detected pressure signal (22). The presupply pump (5) is switched on for the duration at the point in time.
