The invention relates to a method and a device for downloading content, wherein, the method which is implemented by a downloading server comprises the following steps: receiving a message used for requesting the designated content from a terminal; respectively sending the message used for requesting the configuration information of the terminal, the message used for requesting the configuration information of an SIM card of the terminal and the message used for requesting metadata of the designated content to other devices based on the received message; judging whether the designated content is applicable to the terminal or not based on the received configuration information of the terminal, the configuration information of the SIM card and the metadata of the designated content from otherdevices; and sending the designated content to the terminal when the judgment result is positive.
