Zusammenfassung:During the cracking of hydrocarbons in contact with a catalyst the catalyst activity gradually decreases as the result of its contamination with heavy metals present in the treated hydrocarbons, and this results in a reduction in the degree of conversion to gasoline and an increase in the production of hydrogen and coke. In accordance with the invention the spent catalyst is brought into contact with an antimony compound of the formula below, which has a passivating effect on the contaminating heavy metals. In the formula, R denotes a hydrocarbon group containing not more than 18 carbon atoms, the total number of carbon atoms in the molecule being from 6 to 90.
