description | 1,190,825. Polymer compositions. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 25 Sept., 1967 [26 Oct., 1966], No. 43426/67. Headings C3P, C3R and C3T. [Also in Divisions H1 and H4] In a projection system of the type described in Specification 909,403, a transparent deformable medium comprises a fluid having in solution therein polymeric material of molecular weight high enough to produce viscoelastic behaviour in the solution and being present in a concentration at most 35% by weight. The light modulating deformable medium may comprise a polymer of benzyl-toluene (PBT) containing polystyrene or poly-(2-phenyl-6-methyl- 1, 4-phenylene ether) dissolved therein, a polymer of benzylnaphthalene (PBN) containing polystyrene dissolved therein, methylphenylsiloxane liquid containing a methylphenylsiloxane polymer dissolved therein, or an organic silicate liquid containing a methylphenylsiloxane polymer dissolved therein. Detailed examples of the deformable medium are given in the Specification. Other suitable additive polymers for PBT and PBN include polyvinylnaphthalene, polyacenaphthalene and poly-2-vinylbenzofuran. Other additives for methylphenylsiloxane base fluids and silicate fluids include various copolymers of diphenyl tetrasiloxane and dimethyl tetrasiloxane. |
