The said synthetic lightweight ceramic sand can be used as a building material. The said synthetic sand can also be used as a lightweight sand in hydraulic fracking for shale gas recovery. The novel feature of the invention is to manufacture low cost lightweight sand at high throughput to compete against the fast depleting natural sand as well as frac sand. La présente invention concerne la fabrication de sable céramique léger en tant que matériau de construction et de sable léger à résistance intermédiaire pour la récupération de gaz de schiste à partir de déchets industriels. Plus spécifiquement, l'invention concerne un nouveau procédé de fabrication de particules de sable céramique léger synthétique fritté directement à partir d'un gâteau résiduel de bauxite humide et de cendres volantes en tant que matière première secondaire. Ledit sable céramique léger synthétique peut être utilisé comme matériau de construction. Ledit sable synthétique peut également être utilisé comme sable léger dans la fracturation hydraulique pour la récupération de gaz de schiste. La nouvelle caractéristique de l'invention est qu'elle permet de fabriquer du sable léger à faible coût à un débit élevé qui peut rivaliser contre le sable naturel à appauvrissement rapide ainsi que le sable de fracturation.
