Zusammenfassung: | The present invention is directed to a method of treating crude oil, heavy crude oil or diluted bitumen product with an emulsifying agent during or in preparation for transport where the product includes a water component that tends to separate, or the water droplets tend to aggregate and separate from the heavy crude oil or diluted bitumen product is disclosed. The method comprising the steps of: adding sufficient quantities of an emulsifying agent having at least one organic water soluble or water miscible surfactant to the heavy crude oil or diluted bitumen product in sufficient quantities to treat the water component to effectively reduce interfacial tension between the oil or diluted bitumen phase and the water droplets and to increase the breakup rate of water droplets and hence to reduce the size of the water droplets at the given shear rate or given turbulence present in the flow during transport sufficiently to maintain or increase the time the water remains in suspension and increase resuspension of water separated either prior to or during transport, and transporting the product. |
