Zusammenfassung:	An alkaline solution capable of preventing premature oxidation of steel wool comprises an aqueous solution containing at least about 0.1% (wt.) preferably about 0.5% (wt.) or higher and more preferably about 1% (wt.) or higher soap and having a pH of about 9.5 or higher and more preferably above about 10 or higher, most perferably above about 10.5 or higher. Steel wool completely immersed in certain solution which does not rust for 2 weeks or longer. The solution can be employed in storage systems to prevent steel wool soap pads from rusting after initial use or to fabricate steel wool soap pads wherein the products are packaged in said solution.
