The acetylated sugar ether acts as a bleach activator by reacting with a bleaching agent, such as sodium perborate monohydrate, to generate peracetic acid. Following perhydrolysis, the compound acts as a detergency booster. The presence of a least two long chain alkyl groups induces absorption onto the fibers and a softening effect is obtained.
