description - I "THERMOPLASTIC POWER TRANSMISSION BELTS" A method of manufacturing a thermoplastic transmission belt having a reinforcing element in the form of a tape woven from synthetic filamentary fibre yarn and an apparatus for performing the method. A thermoplastic body element is extruded around the reinforcing element. The reinforcing eliminates heated prior to the extrusion stage and after extrusion the formed belt is cooled. The reinforcing element is held in tension during the heating, extruding and cooling stages. A constant tension is applied to the reinforcing element by suspending a discrete weight from the reinforcing element. A haul-off mechanism is provided and comprises two rotatable opposed endless belts which grip the formed belt to pull the reinforcing element through the apparatus. A bonding agent may be applied to the reinforcing element by passing it through a dip tank.
