Zusammenfassung:1478689 Treatment of lead sulphide bearing material SHERRITT GORDON MINES Ltd 1 Oct 1974 [2 Oct 1973] 42543/74 Heading ClA Slurries of finely divided lead sulphide bearing materials in aqueous media are leached by providing free acetate ions in the slurry in an amount to combine with all the lead values, adjusting the pH of the slurry to a value of 5À1 or lower, and then heating the slurry to 60‹ to 120‹ C. under a partial pressure of oxygen of 20 to 60 psig, thereby forming insoluble elemental sulphur and soluble lead acetate. After separating off the sulphur, the lead acetate solution may be treated with a free CO 2 bearing gas to precipitate insoluble lead carbonate which is recovered. Any undissolved lead salts may be extracted from the sulphur rich residues by treatment with aqueous ammonia in the presence of a low-oxygen content gas, the PbS so formed being re-cycled to the slurry and the ammonium sulphate and ammonium thiosulphate being recovered.
