Zusammenfassung:Method for enhancing echogenicity of synthetic polymeric microparticles in ultrasonic imaging, by incorporating a fluorinated gas instead of air in the microparticle, is new. Also claimed is a composition for ultrasound imaging comprising a synthetic biocompatible polymeric microparticle incorporating a fluorinated gas to enhance imaging, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Also claimed is a method of making a microparticle formed of a biocompatible polymer having enhanced echogenicity, comprising incorporating into a solution of the biocompatible polymer a volatile salt, then removing the polymer solvent and the volatile salt to form the porous microparticle.
