Determination of whether an object is close to an imaging apparatus is made. In the case where an imaging apparatus (1) is not able to detect the distance to an object (5) placed over an imaging surface (1a) thereof, if the area of a bright region in an image of the object (5) captured by an imaging unit (2) with light emitted from a light emitting unit (3a) is equal to or greater than a predetermined area, the imaging apparatus (1) determines that the object (5) is close to the imaging apparatus (1). Thus, it becomes possible to let the user know that the palm is too close to the imaging apparatus (1) and to prompt the user to move the palm away from the imaging apparatus (1). Accordingly, it becomes possible to smoothly capture an image of the object (5). |
