description | 1339567 Cooling composition IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 Nov 1971 [4 Nov 1970] 52445/70 Heading C3B [Also in Division C7] A composition useful in electrodeposition processes comprises: (a) an aqueous dispersion of a cooling material containing acid groups, especially an epoxy resin ester as disclosed in Specification 1,069,841, which are at least partially neutralized by either an alkali metal hydroxide or a water soluble amine which contains at least one aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, optionally substituted, of not more than six carbon atoms, and (b) an amphipathic material containing a basic nitrogen atom and a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of at least 10 carbon atoms. The neutralizing base is preferably KOH. The amphipathic material may be compound in which R is a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of at least 10 carbon atoms and either or both of R1 and R2 are oxyethylene or polyoxyethylene groups, R1 or R2 being H or C 1-4 alkyl when not (poly)oxyethylene. The proportion of neutralizing base may be such that the pH is at least 6 if the amphipathic material was absent and may be present so as to neutralize at least 30 % of the acid groups in the cooling resin. The amount of amphipathic materal may increase the pH by not more than 0À5 units. Conventional pigments may be present. |
