Aqueous, effect-bearing coating substance, method for producing the same and usethereof

An aqueous effect-forming coating composition containing at least one water soluble or dispersible binding agent and an effect pigment is prepared by: (1) mixing the pigment with the binding agent in an aqueous medium; (2) forming a second dispersion of the pigment; and (3) mixing the two dispersions with the aqueous solution or dispersion of at least one water soluble or dispersible binding agent. An aqueous effect-forming coating composition (I) containing: (a) at least one water soluble or dispersible binding agent; and (b) an effect pigment. is prepared by: (i) dispersal of a first portion of the pigment (B) or a mixture of the first pigment (B) in a water miscible organic solvent and an aqueous solution or dispersion of a water soluble dispersible binding agent (A); (ii) dispersal of a second portion of the pigment (B) or a second pigment in a mixture of water miscible organic solvent and a non- or slightly water-miscible sovlent; and (iii) mixing the dispersions from (i) and (ii) with the aqueous solution or dispersion of at least one water soluble or dispersible binding agent.
