Preferably the solvent is methanol and the catalysts are chosen from quinone derivatives such as anthra(hydro)quinone. Sodium, potassium and/or ammonium sulphites and sulphides are used, to which the corresponding alkali hydroxides and/or (hydrogen) carbonates are added.
