Zusammenfassung: | The major emphasis of ballast water treatment research has been on the performance of treatment on marine organisms. Most treatment systems use active substances (chemicals) to disinfect ballast water. A potential side-effect of these disinfectants is an increase in corrosion rates. The US Coast Guard needs to understand the implications of ballast water treatment on corrosion of vessel s materials. This report represents Phase 1: Corrosion Scoping Study of the project. It contains a literature review that identifies both existing treatment technologies and available corrosion data.
