Zusammenfassung: | The objective of this program was to investigate and develop a method for reducing the coupling efficiency losses incurred with the hermetic LDL-9 package. In addition, an alternative package construction, more conducive to hermetic seals, which does not mechanically disturb the critical alignment of the single mode fiber relative to the source diode, was developed. Table 1 summarizes the performance goals of the contract. During the course of this program, modifications to the requirements were incorporated. First, four LDT-363L epoxied units were delivered to NRL because of an urgent need to generate a few hydrophones. Secondly, a technique was developed for attaching single mode polarization preserving fiber to single mode semiconductor lasers which will be described in Section II of this report. Finally, three units were constructed which met all the performance goals of the contract. (Author) |
