Zusammenfassung:	The PID metric is a method for measuring and scoring the quality of maritime ISR activities in an operational context. The metric presents a clear, easy to interpret, quantitative measure of effectiveness of maritime ISR activities over a defined period of time, and has been adopted by Canadas regional operational commands as one of the standard metrics for maritime ISR reporting. The aim of this paper is to describe the theoretical and technical underpinnings of the PID metric for a scientific audience. The current metric serves as a starting point for evolving a much more comprehensive metric for maritime ISR.
