INHIBITORY PROPERTIES OF SERUM PROTEINS ON THE ENZYMATIC SEQUENCE LEADING TO LYSIS OF RED BLOOD CELLS BY SNAKE VENOM

Zusammenfassung: | Serum albumin inhibited hemolysis of washed red cells by C. atrox whole venom, non-specifically and indirectly, by binding lysolecithin during or after its formation. Specific and non-specific serum globulins did not inhibit hemolysis in the indirect assay method used. When purified rabbit gamma globulin specific for C. atrox venom, was allowed to act on snake venom before the lecithin substrate and red cells were added, hemolysis was inhibited. Non-specific purified gamma globulins from various sources did not inhibit venom hemolysis by this direct mechanism. (Author) |
