description The intravenous administration of sodium gallate to dogs 30 minutes prior to irradiation with a dose of 600 r led to the survival of three out of five animals and caused a prolongation by seven to ten days of the average length of life of the animals which died. The administration of sodium gallate immediately after irradiation of dogs with the dose of 600 r also led to survival of three dogs out of seven and to increased length of life of the animals which later died by an average of six days. The anti-radiation influence of sodium gallate when given before as well as after irradiation loads to a mitigation of the severeity of the clinical course of radiation sickness, and loads to a postponement by four to eight days or more of the period of fulminating radiation sickness. (Author) Trans. of Fiziologichnyi Zhurnal (USSR) 1963, v. 9, no. 2, p. 240-244. Also from OTS for $.50 as rept. 63-21852.
