description Currently, the practice of physical exercises and the adoption of a balanced diet are encouraged. Among bodybuilders, it is observed the use of dietary supplements, often exaggerated, unnecessary and without proper guidance. Many believe that without the use of these it would not be possible to reach their goals. However, it is known that balanced and diversified diets are sufficient for maintaining good health and physical fitness. The objective of this study was to evaluate the intake of dietary protein and also the supplementation used by bodybuilders in an academy in Erechim-RS. Was evaluated 60 individuals (37.7%) were male and 23 (38.3%) female, with a mean age of 25.5 years (±4.3). Protein intake was assessed through a 3-day retrospective dietary survey and supplement use was questioned and observed. The demand for bodybuilding was higher among male participants (61.7%). Of these, 80% aimed at hypertrophy and 95.2% used supplements. The goal of weight loss was observed in 73.3% of the women. It was observed that of the total sample 46.7% (n = 28) consumed protein amounts above the recommended level. In addition, 35% (n = 21) ate food supplements, and only 28.6% did so with appropriate guidance. This study suggests that practitioners, even demonstrating consciousness of the positive relationship between training and diet and that the use of supplements is expendable, in most cases still seek these features. The need for follow-up with a nutritionist is highlighted. Destes,
