description Abstract Active methodologies has proven to be the best alternative for medical education. However, there no research, in the literature, comparing its use in teaching ethics and bioethics. Therefore, this study seeks to compare the knowledge of medical students from two different types of teaching (traditional and active) regarding the Code of Medical Ethics. The type of teaching methodology did not show impact on the degree of reading or knowledge of the Code of Medical Ethics, in addition both types of students believed to present the same degree of knowledge. However, students of the active methodology gave more importance to the bioethics and medical ethics discipline and presented greater knowledge on one of the questions concerning the standardization of the Code of Medical Ethics.
