Zusammenfassung: | A set of natural silk and flax fibre reinforced composites have been prepared using resin transfer molding method. While maintaining a constant overall fibre volume fraction of the composites at 50 vol.%, the hybrid ratios of silk and flax were varied. From the dataset, a stiffening and strengthening effect from the introduction of flax can be seen for hybrid fibre composites compared to silk-only composites. In addition, the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) was found to enhance with the introduction of flax in the hybrid fibre composites. It is noted that the ILSS test specimens failed in a combination of tensile and shear failure modes due to the ductility of both epoxy resin and silk fibres. |
