description This database contains data relating to work carried out on "Influence of clay-rich sediments on methane hydrate formation: impacts on kinetic behaviour and gas storage capacity." It includes three main files: (1) the characterization (mineralogy and grain size distribution) and natural clay sediments associated with gas hydrates from the Romanian sector of the Black Sea; synthetic sediments that are sand, illite (ILL) and montmorillonite (MMT) rich clays used for methane hydrate formation in the laboratory . (2) Pressure and temperature data acquired during high pressure experiments of methane hydrates formation in the above-mentioned sedimentary matrices, which allowed the study of hydrate formation kinetics. (3) Data from Raman spectroscopy analyses performed on both synthetic and natural hydrates collected from the Black Sea. The data were obtained from the processing of the spectral signatures of methane in large (LC) and small cages (SC) of hydrate. For each sample analyzed, The dataset include the (1) the integrated intensities of the Raman spectral bands of methane hydrate (ALC and ASC), the relative cage occupancy of large to small cages (θLC/θSC), the derived absolute cage occupancies in large (θLC) and small cages (θLC) , the hydration number as well as the hydrate storage capacity.
